Reducing point-source pollution by pesticides
Point-sources, such as washing and filling areas for sprayers,
constitute a great risk of pesticides leaching to the ground water.
Some countries are in the process of developing national guidelines for set-up
of washing and filling places for sprayers, and counties or municipalities will be
responsible for checking these. However, available technologies for preventing
point-source pollution are either too costly or not efficient enough, and there
is a need to develop better technologies.
In the project, an already existing filter system for cleaning of diesel spillage
- developed by a Swedish SME - will be tested and adapted to cleaning of
pesticide-containing wastewater.
Participants in this component will be the Danish Institute of Agricultural
Sciences, Department of Integrated Pest Management, and the Swedish Agricultural
University, Department of Microbiology.
